Launch Day!
How exciting! All the hard work of putting this all together has finally paid off and we're live. Now there's a direct way to keep up with the chickens and cats, donate to the cause and purchase crafts from me. This has been a long time coming and I finally decided to bite the bullet since I'd like to take this whole journey a bit more serious. The chicken stuff started as a hobby to fill the time and has transformed into a true passion. Now it's go time - stay tuned!
Other exciting news:
• My last hatch will be happening soon starting on the 13th and ending the 24th so if you've been wanting some chicks of mine; this is your time before I pack up till spring! It's a good mix of all the colors of Bantams I offer: Blue/Black Mottled, Buff Mottled and Calicos
• I'll be vending at the Harvest Fest hosted at Tractor Supply right here in Gaffney - I'll have soaps, chicks and maybe even some gemstone jewelry. So come out and say hello!
The Work Never Ends
A few exciting things have occurred this week among the usual tasks of the week like the back breaking labor of a lice treatment and coop clean outs! But on the positive side, we added a new little buddy to our ever growing family, as well as a new little group of hatchlings; the new little buddy is a German Shepard and Black Lab mix whom we’ve named Rufus. My mom had brought him and his siblings home to foster and I just fell in love with this fuzzy little face. He’s been quite the handful in terms of little puppy energy and trying to train him up to be a good little boy with all the other animals around. I believe he’s a wonderful addition.
I’m hoping to have this site complete and up within the next few days but figured a good update was needed, stay tuned!
Humble Beginnings
You can’t see this just yet but you will once I’ve finally launch this site! Here we are sitting on 34 acres with no real knowledge on what to do with it; we’ve been learning as we go, making plenty of mistakes and hopefully learning a bit from them. We’ve explored many avenues we could take with everything but of course I’m so indecisive I’ve yet to land on just one thing! How could I when the possibilities are endless. Well budget is a giant factor to that!
My husband and I have had to build a home, take care of an ever growing number of animals and somehow still pay the bills and feed ourselves in the middle of it. Now I’m trying to start something for our future in the midst of an economic shit-storm so to say I’m fatigued is the least of it. But I will not let this deter me from building something for my family, I can not allow it. So here we are building a website to hopefully blend together all of the insane things that I do and grant them a spotlight like that maybe something wonderful can come out of it. An easier way for people to access my crafts or answer the questions they may have, who knows!
This entire year I’ve been cleaning up the property, fixing up my chicken houses and spending way too much time at the vet. A necessary set of chores but it’s all with the hopes that by Spring next year I’ll be able to host local Farm Swaps and events that could not only build a community but also help raise some funds for feed! It hasn’t been an easy chore at all with weeks worth of disgusting heat and rains. Also putting up fences in 109 degree weather just sounds terrible so building our garden will have to wait until the Fall! But we can rebuild our compost system in the meantime and build onto it a farm for black solider flies for the chickens.
I’ll wrap this up by saying this, I may overwork myself but it’s worth it to know my animals will have a nice place to live and full bellies.
